A majority of automakers will submit plans to extend the auto rules under the USMCA because it gives them more time to comply with a major revision of the auto rules of origin. “We are aware that some automakers are considering the submission of request for alternative staging,” said Jennifer Safavian of Here For America, a group representing several international automakers. Safavian, the group’s first CEO, said the additional time potentially allows for a smoother transition for the automakers and their suppliers.
