Automotive Industry Launches New Trade Association

Twelve leading auto companies today announced the formation of Here For America, a not-for-profit trade association dedicated to the growth and success of the U.S. auto industry. Here For America will educate policy makers and the public about the benefits of investments made by international automakers in the United States and advocate for open trade and investment policies that support U.S. auto manufacturing and American jobs. “The growth of the U.S. auto industry is dependent on access to markets abroad and a competitive manufacturing platform here at home. Our future depends on trade and investment policies that support American jobs and encourage the export of American built vehicles around the world,” said Paul D. Ryan, Here For America’s senior vice president. Here For America, a coalition originally created by the Association of Global Automakers, launched as a standalone organization on January 1st. Inaugural members include American Honda Motor Co., Inc., BMW of North America, Hyundai Motor America, Kia Motors America, Inc., Mazda North American Operations, Inc., Mercedes-Benz USA, Mitsubishi Motors, Nissan North America, Inc., Subaru of America, Inc., Toyota Motor North America, Inc., Volkswagen Group of America, Volvo Cars USA. The new association will support its members and the U.S. auto industry by collaborating with executive branch officials and elected leaders at the state and federal level on policies that encourage a healthy, growing, and globally competitive U.S. auto industry. Nearly half of all vehicles produced in the U.S. are built by Americans in the U.S. plants of international automakers.
